Result List

If your search is successful, you receive a list with an overview of all hits.

Limit hits

In the top row of your search query you will find a summary of your search query.

Example:
Your search query: Title = Harry Potter AND Author = Rowling

In the left narrow results window, you can limit the number of titles according to content-based and formal criteria. Please note: The selection options are determined electronically based on the catalogue data. Therefore, they only provide a starting point for thematic limitation. It is recommended to also independently evaluate and select the identified titles.

You can active the selection criteria by clicking on them. A selected search filter appears with the new selection criteria. By clicking on the cross , the selection can be cancelled again. A maximum of only five selection terms are shown each time. The selection list can be extended by “Show more...”.

The following criteria are available:
* Subject
* Subject heading
* Year
* Language
* Format
* Author
* Location

List of Hits

In the field Hits Catalogue of the University Library EI-IN / THI you get an overview of the identified titles and number of hits. After logging in, you can set the maximum number of displayed hits on one page via your personal search preferences (under Information).

• For each medium, there is core information such as author/editor, title, year of publication and signature. In the search in the local catalogue, there are notes on the loan status (can be ordered, can be borrowed, etc.) which can be aligned to the choice of your current branch office, e.g. Your current branch office is the subsidiary library Ingolstadt: With titles that appear in the Echstätter Magazin, you receive the message: available (in other branch).
  If there are several copies of the same title, you can open the shelfmarks by clicking on ...more .
• If you move the cursor over the symbol of the respective title, your receive information about the type of publication.
• The title is used as a link to the full display with additional bibliographical and content-describing information about the hit.
• By ticking the checkbox of the individual hits, you mark one or several media for adding to the reserve list; you remove the marking by clicking again. With Save in: temporary reserve list (or in own reserve list after logging in), add the selected titles.

Short Form

Standard display after opening the reserve list. For each medium the author, the title, the year of publication and the shelfmark of the local database is output.

Detailed Display / Full Form

By clicking on the title, you open a window with the detailed display. This contains the most important bibliographical information on the selected title, such as author, title, subtitle, publisher, publisher location, page numbers, year of publication, ISBN, subject headings.

If available, additional information is shown here:

• Full text: to read the full text, please log into the VPN client in the university network if you work outside the university campus.
• The book cover with a link to Amazon or Google Books (sometimes with part of the full text)
• Table of Contents
• Description

Clicking on the Holdings tab shows all available copies of the medium at the different libraries and provides the option of ordering one of several copies or of reserving titles if these are on loan.
Under Get document you can place an interlibrary order, for example, over “Information”. Please note: media that is available in the selected branch office cannot be ordered via an interlibrary loan!
By clicking on More title information, the full bibliographical data is displayed, e.g. classification, footnotes or language. A “permalink” is a permanent URL for the found data record. Use Back to results (above the full display or Actions at the right edge of the window) to switch back to the hit list.

Options for extending or changing the search

If the search did not lead to a satisfactory result, the OPAC provides additional options for changing the search:

• With Modify search request you can return to the search entry. It is recommended to not use the browser’s “One page back” button because the data that is entered in the search fields becomes lost.
• Extend to interlibrary loan or choose Union Catalogue: The search is automatically extended to the Union Catalogue of the Bavarian Library Network, where an interlibrary loan can be made.
• Change selection of databases: The database selection function is open, increase the number of databases to which the search should refer (currently the Bavarian Union Catalogue and Articles & more are available).
• Information (in the top navigation): Here, you can:
  • order a title which is not in the Bavarian Library Network under interlibrary loan
  • or you can directly contact the library staff with a question / message to the library
  • or you can make an order suggestion.
